Reconciling Deadness and Free Will

I was re-listening to an exchange between James R. White and the late Dave Hunt on Reformed Theology. Two points very specifically came to my mind in listening to this exchange. 1). Passages of Scripture that address willingness or unwillingness. There are passages of Scripture that speak of desire or willingness. However, I'm amazed that if we read passages of Scripture that discuss will or choice that there are some who immediately bypass the exegesis of passages and launch into diatribes that choice or willingness automatically means ability. Certainly, Scripture cannot be broken and ther...

Trinitarian Baptism

It's been a long time since I've dealt with the subject of baptismal formulas and to be honest, it looks to me like this isn't even an issue anymore in my sphere of influence.  I haven't been in a church where this was ever a controversy. But I have had a previous time in my life, early on in my ministry, where I came across a lot of individuals among whom this was a controversy.  What are baptismal formulas? Simply...

Don't Be Afraid to Call it a Sacrament

Often times I've heard Christians take issue with calling baptism or communion, "sacraments".  Typically, this is due to having had a prior Roman Catholic background and hearing the word "sacrament" can definitely bring up some negative memories.  I can understand that if someone has prior experience with a word that had a negative connotation that it would be hard to use that word in a worship setting. After all, worship is...

William Lane Craig, Matt Walsh, Andy Stanley, Cheapen the Christian Worldview

A recent tweet from William Lane Craig has prompted me to comment on an issue that seems consistent between Dr. Craig, Matt Walsh, and Andy Stanley.  The issue is what I clearly see as nothing more than cheapening the Christian worldview.  Dr. Craig tweeted: We Don’t Believe in Christ Because We Believe in the Bible. Check out Dr. Craig's latest Question of...

Douglas Beaumont Shows How Not To Argue

There's a good example of how not to argue provided by a recent attack on Dr. James R. White. This attack and bad arguing methodology were provided here.  The reason why I wanted to comment on this is that this underscores a specific problem I have in the way some people argue by example.  Douglas Beaumont attempts to machine gun logi...

Jesus Death, Burial, and Resurrection. Three Days and Three Nights

The expression, "three days and three nights," has been a topic of interest for quite some time. It is used several times in the Bible, and, Matthew 12:40 in particular. The issue relates to how people understand this expression in connection with the death and resurrection of Jesus. If Christ died on Friday and rose on Sunday, then, mathematically, the prophecy that Jesus would spend three days and three nights in the grave—just like Jonah in the belly of the fish—is not entirely accurate. The prophecy's accuracy is a major concern for those who hold that the Bible is without error. If t...

The Irony of the Woke Church Movement

I've been thinking lately about something that is an interesting consideration. The "Woke Church Movement" insists on white people listening more to or paying more attention to people of color.  The Woke Church Movement wants white people to be more diverse in who they listen to. They believe the more diverse the better. Don't just settle for having one black friend, go for two-plus.  The irony is that I have actually follow...
